You might think this fitness app has been recently launched on the market but it is not as new as most people believe it to be. In fact, this tool was first named Skyfit before it became Aaptiv Fitness app (I personally think that the first name sounded better and it was more appealing but hey, that’s just me).
Long story short, I’m talking about an application that provides fitness classes in the form of audio lessons and all you have to do to use it is open up your mobile phone.
All the classes are held by professional and certified coaches and personal trainers who will help and assist you the entire time you’re using the app.
One aspect that I simply love about this tool is its wide range of available workouts, not to mention that 30 different classes are uploaded every week. So, no one can actually say they got bored with Aaptiv. Another advantage that will keep you motivated is the music that you will hear in the background that will support you in keeping up with the workouts’ pace.
Aaptive’s Main Features
There are many cool and useful features that this app provides. The first one I want to mention is the Profile section where you can look at a pie chart that shows the types of workouts you have already performed, in percentages. It even allows you to set reminders to make sure you will maintain yourself active on a regular basis.
Any workout you choose to do can be paused or skipped ahead when needed, but not more than 30 seconds at once. Another great feature is given by the possibility to save the workouts you enjoy the most and create your own collection. Finally, workouts can be downloaded if you want to do them offline or when your Internet access is poor.
What About Customization?
You can fully customize any of the Aaptive workouts on multiple levels until it suits your needs and preferences. Therefore, you will be able to filter results based on the following factors:
- Workout category or type – running, strength training, yoga, etc.;

The app will let you take a look at your jogging statistics so it will be easier to keep track of your progress. Furthermore, Aaptive has audio workouts and music playlists that specifically target this type of physical activity.
With Aaptive you can choose an outdoor run or, just as good, you can opt for a treadmill workout. Even if you aren’t an avid runner, you can become one by using this fitness app because it will get you started for sure. The app lets you know what you’re about to do right from the start by providing you with useful workout information such as duration, miles, your maximum speed, calories burned, and more.
I don’t know about you, but for me, the proper upbeat music is a must during running sessions. With Aaptive, you will listen to good music that adjusts its intensity to match your workout’s pace (with elements of high-intensity interval training). When the trainer begins to talk and guide you through the exercise, the song that is playing at that moment will instantly fade into the background. Therefore, it won’t bother you and the coach will make himself/herself heard clearly.

The running module is well-organized: at first, you will do a quick warm-up, and then you will go through high-intensity running intervals without skipping the active recovery periods.

- This is a paid app which is also not very cheap and not all people are willing to make the commitment;
- You cannot use Aaptiv and listen to your own playlist at the same time because music is already provided by the app despite the fact that you might not like all their songs;
- Some of you might get confused about the app’s levels of intensity. For example, certain beginner workouts are really easy to perform while others are incredibly hard;
- If you ask me, a main downside of the Aaptiv app is the fact that you need fitness equipment for most of the workouts.
Who Is This Fitness App for?
Due to its large variety of workouts, fitness levels, and certified coaches, I can say that the Aaptiv Fitness app is suitable for everyone who wants to live a healthier and more active life. It doesn’t actually matter if you’re new at this or if you’re an experienced fitness lover. One thing is for sure; the tool I’m reviewing today provides something for everyone so you will certainly find enjoyable and appropriate workouts in the app’s database.
How Much Does It Cost
There are a couple of things you will need in order to use the Aaptive app: a smartphone and headphones, preferably wireless ones. If you’re not really sure whether or not the app will be suited for you, you can start by opting for the free trial period. If you like it, you can continue with a membership.
There are two main choices when it comes to Aaptiv’s membership aspect. You can either go for an annual billing in which you will receive 12 months of unlimited workouts or you can select the second alternative which is a monthly payment. The annual membership costs $8.33 per month and, for the second option, the monthly fee is $14.99.
Update! At the moment, the company offers a 30% discount on their annual fee so you are required to pay only $5.83 per month after the free trial period is over.
Now, the cost is debatable. It depends on the way you look at it. For instance, if you compare it to regular fitness classes, Aaptiv’s price is a real bargain. However, if you look at it from the perspective of other similar apps, this one can be quite expensive. The good news is you can cancel the membership anytime you want.
Is the Aaptiv Fitness App Worth Trying?
I must confess that I did not know about this app until a few months ago and since then I’ve been addicted to it. First, I wanted to try it out so I enjoyed the fact that the company offers a 30-day free trial period. I believe this is a smart marketing move.
At the time, I was super frustrated because I have used plenty of workout apps in the past but they all ended up deleted pretty quickly. So, I was very disappointed by fitness apps when I laid my eyes on Aaptiv which seemed different and truly piqued my interest. I opened the app, selected a workout, and boom! I was hooked!
Since then, I always use the app whenever I feel like working out, no matter where I am. Don’t get me wrong! Aaptiv is not a perfect workout tool but it is better than many other similar options.
